Sue Ellen's home....morning

While Catlin is packing his suitcase, Sue Ellen is finishing getting dressed in their bedroom. "How long will you be gone?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"Hopefully no more than a couple of days,"  Catlin replies.  "I really hate leaving you right now, but, I need to do this."

"I wish I could come with you."

"Me too.  But, being out on bail, you're not allowed to leave town."

"Yes,"  Sue Ellen says.

"Besides, this is a business trip,"  says Catlin.  "I'll be in meetings the whole time I'm there, and I wouldn't have any time.  But, I tell ya what.  As soon as this trial is over and this whole nightmare is behind us, I plan to take you on a long, well deserved vacation.  Or maybe we could turn that vacation into a honeymoon."

"After the trial,"  Sue Ellen says.  "You're going on the assumption that I'll be found not guilty."

"Sue Ellen, I'm convinced of your innocence."

"I wish I were.  But, even if I am innocent, there are a lot of innocent people sitting in prison."

"You're NOT going to be one of them, Sue Ellen,"  Catlin says.  "I promise.  I love you."

"I love you, too,"  Sue Ellen says, kissing him.

"I have to get to the airport.  I'll be back in a couple of days.  You keep the faith.  I'll call you when I land."

"Alright."

Catlin kisses her again, then walks to the door of the bedroom.  He turns back and smiles at Sue Ellen, then leaves.  A couple of minutes later, Catlin walks out of the house.  He pauses for a moment, silently praying that he was on the trail of a lead that could help exonerate Sue Ellen of Brittany's murder.

The Wentworth mansion....

Katherine is sitting at the table in the Wentworth dining room that morning.  As she takes a sip of her coffee, she thinks back to the conversation she'd had with Ann Ewing the previous night....

********************************FLASHBACK*************************************

"I have no idea what you're talking about,"  Katherine says.

"You know exactly what I'm talkin' about.  When Austin was born, he was one of THREE babies, Katherine.  You gave birth to triplets."

"I don't know what you THINK you know about me, but......"

"I know the truth,"  Ann says.  "But the question is.....does Austin know he has two other siblings?  And what about Austin's father, Jeremy Lord?  Does he know?  What happened to them, Katherine?"

"GET OUT!"  Katherine yells.  "Get the HELL out of my house before I throw you out!"

"Let me give you this warning, Katherine, and I'm gonna say this only once.  Your secret is safe with me, as long as you keep your mouth shut about Emma's baby.  And as long as you leave my daughter alone."  Ann gives Katherine an angry glare, then turns and leaves...

************************************************************************************

Katherine's mind returns to the present.  She takes another sip of her coffee as Austin walks into the room.

"Morning, Mom,"  he says, taking a seat at the table across from his mother.

"Good morning, sweetheart."

"How'd it feel, sleeping in your old room again?"

"Felt wonderful.  Although I do miss Richard."

Helen pours Austin a cup of coffee.  "Thank you, Helen," he says.

"You're welcome, Mr. Austin.  What would you like for breakfast?"

"I'll just have some waffles this morning, Helen,"  Austin replies.

Helen smiles, then leaves the room.

"Are you okay, Mom?"  Austin asks.  "You've been acting kinda strange ever since I came back last night."

"I'm alright, darling, I'm just a little tired from the trip yesterday and a little preoccupied."

"Oh.  Anything you care to share?"

"No.  Everything is fine,"  Katherine says.

"Okay, well, I have a date to play some racquetball at the club at 10 this morning,"  Austin says.  "It's a business meeting, and I should be home no later than 1.  Then you and I can spend the rest of the day together."

"That sounds nice.  I have some phone calls to make, and I'll probably take a look at some of Wentworth's quarterly reports while you're out.  That should keep me occupied."

Austin smiles.  "Good.  Mom, I can't tell you how happy I am to have you home.  Now, if only you'd stay in Dallas."

"Sweetheart, how many times have we been over this?"  Katherine asks.  "My......"

"Home is at Falcon Crest now,"  Austin interrupts his mother.  "I know."

"Well, you know, Austin, you COULD move out there to California.  What is there that's really keeping you in Dallas, anyway?  We could easily move Wentworth's operations to San Francisco.  I'm out there, and so is your brother Jonathon.  It would give the two of you a chance to get to know one another."

"And my father is there.  Not to mention I also have a younger brother, Alex."

"So you see?"  Katherine asks.  "Between us we just named several reasons for you to move to California.  Now can you think of one good reason for you to stay here all by yourself?"

"Mom, would you ever REALLY want to move Wentworth Industries out of Texas?"  Austin asks.  "The company has been here ever since your father started Wentworth Tool & Dye back in the early 50s."

"I know.  But, I mean, my father started Wentworth in Houston, and the headquarters remained there until that little worm Cliff Barnes got his hands on the company.  Maybe it's time for a change.  So how about it?  Will you at least think about it?"

Austin looks at his mother.  "Alright.  I'll think about it."

Katherine manages a slight smile, but her mind is still preoccupied by worrying about Ann Ewing knowing her secret.  And, she knew that Emma Ryland had to be the culprit. Privately, Katherine is seething with anger toward both Ann and her brat of a daughter.

Southfork....later

Christopher, Courtney, Lucas, and Michael are enjoying some Saturday fun in the pool at Southfork later that morning, while Heather, Bobby and Ann sit on the patio and watch.

"Mama, come get in!"  Michael yells to his mother.

"I will in a little bit, sweety,"  Heather replies.  "I'm tryin' to get some sun."

"You know what they say about too much sun.  Causes cancer,"  Christopher says with a smile.

"Mama, are you gonna get cancer?"  Michael asks.

"No, baby, Christopher was just jokin',"  Heather says.

"Of course I was, Michael,"  says Christopher.

Bobby smiles as he watches his sons and his grandson in the pool.  "It sure is great havin' my little grandson livin' here at Southfork.  And Heather, hopefully, soon Michael might have a little brother or sister to play with?"

"Well, Lucas and I definitely do want more kids, Bobby,"  Heather says.  "But just not right away.  We wanna wait at least a year or two, and just kinda get use to the three of us bein' a family."

"I sure don't blame ya for that,"  Bobby says. "I just think it'd be nice for Michael to have a little brother or sister."

Bobby's comments about Michael having a brother or sister make Ann nervous, since she is aware that Michael already has a little half-brother, a secret she is keeping from him for Emma's sake.  "Well, hopefully if everything works out for Courtney and she gets custody of her little boy, Michael will have a child around his age to play with here at Southfork," she says.

"And you'll have another grandson, Bobby,"  says Heather.

John Ross and Krystina come out of the house dressed in their swimwear, Krystina carrying Little John.  As they head over to the pool to join the rest of the family, Alex and Shawn

come out of the house. Shawn looks at Courtney, Heather, and Krystina, smiles, and shakes his head. "Dude, you are one lucky ass man," he says to Alex. "Livin' in the same house with THIS many hot women.  I may just have to ask my Aunt Ann and Uncle Bobby if I can move in, too."

Alex laughs.  "Dude, you're crazy."

"Yeah, I'm crazy,"  Shawn says.  "But that's part of my charm, bro."

"Come on, let's get in,"  Alex says, taking off his shirt.  "I'll race ya."

"And I'll beat ya,"  Shawn says,  He takes off his shirt, runs, and jumps into the pool, followed closely behind by Alex.

Meanwhile, a car drives up to the house and comes to a stop in the parking area.  "Who could that be?"  Ann wonders.

Courtney's mother, Phyllis Wapner, gets out of the car. "Oh, it's Phyllis,"  Bobby says with a smile.  He gets up from his seat on the patio and walks out to greet his former secretary.  "Phyllis, how are you?"  He asks, greeting her with a hug.

"Hello, Bobby, I'm just fine, thank you.  And how are you?"

"Couldn't be better.  It's great to see you."

"Phyllis, hello,"  Ann says, walking over.

"Hello, Ann."

"We had no idea you were comin',"  Bobby says.  "Courtney never said a word."

"That's because my daughter didn't know,"  says Phyllis.  "I wanted to surprise her."

"Well, I know she'll be pleasantly surprised," Ann says.  "Everyone's in the pool.  Come on over."

"Alright."  Phyllis follows Bobby and Ann over to the pool.  Christopher swims over to the

edge of the pool.  "Courtney, look who's here," he says.

"What?  Oh my God, MOM!"  Exclaims an excited Courtney.

"Hello, you two,"  Phyllis says.

"Phyllis, how ya doin'?"  Christopher asks his mother-in-law.

"Just fine."

Courtney gets out of the pool, grabs a towel, and walks over to her mother.  "Mom, I'm SO happy to see you.  I'd give you a hug, but, I'm a little wet right now."

"Oh, sweetheart, that's perfectly alright, I'm just so happy to see my daughter,"  Phyllis says, hugging Courtney.

"Phyllis, how long are ya gonna be in town?"  Bobby asks.

"Mom, please say you can stay a few days," says Courtney.

Phyllis smiles.  "Yes, I can stay a few days."

"That's wonderful."

"I already made a reservation at the Omni."

"A hotel?"  Bobby asks.  "Phyllis, no way.  You can stay right here at Southfork."

"Bobby, I can see you already have a house full,"  says Phyllis.  "I don't wanna put you out."

"Nonsense, you won't be,"  Ann says.

"Of course not.  You can stay in the cottage.  It's fully furnished, very comfortable, AND you'll be near Courtney and the rest of the family."

"Well, alright, then, I accept."

"Mom, I'm gonna go and get dressed, and then we can sit down and catch up,"  Courtney says.  "I have SO much to tell you."

"Okay."

"I'll be down in fifteen minutes,"  Courtney says, heading into the house.

"Well, your daughter is VERY excited to see you,"  says Bobby.  "We all are."

Phyllis looks at her former boss and smiles.

Dallas Racquetball Club....

Austin and a potential new business partner are finishing up a game of racquetball around noon, both breathing hard from the exercise as they exit the racquetball court.

"Austin, that was a damn good game," says the other young man.

"Sure was, Garrett,"  Austin says, out of breath.

"We definitely gotta do this again soon."

"Oh yeah, sure, anytime,"  Austin says.

"Well, I'm gonna get going.  Listen, I'll have my secretary check my calendar and give you a call first of the week so we can set up a meeting."

"I look forward to it, Garrett.  And thanks."

"See ya, Austin,"  Garrett says, turning and walking away.

Austin lets out a deep breath.  "Wow," he says to himself.  "That guy must be in great shape.  He barely broke a sweat.  Either that, or I didn't realize just how OUT of shape I really am."  Austin walks into one of the dressing rooms to change.

Meanwhile, Jimmy and Katelyn walk into the club, both carrying travel bags containing their rackets and some balls.  "So, you've never played racquetball before, huh?"  Jimmy asks.

"Nope, never have.  Never had the opportunity."

"Well, then, you're in for a real treat, Miss Spencer,"  Jimmy says.  "I just started playing myself not too long ago, and I can tell you, it's a GREAT stress reliever."

"Better than sex?"  Katelyn asks with a smile.

Jimmy laughs.  "No.  But still a great stress reliever, especially if you pretend that little ball is the source of your stress and you're beating its ass with that racket."

"Well, I definitely know who I'd like to picture when I'm hitting that little ball,"  Katelyn says.

Jimmy smiles.  "Good.  Now, come on.  Let's get some of this tension out."

As Katelyn is about to follow Jimmy into one of the enclosed courts, Austin comes out of

the dressing room and down the hall.  When he and Katelyn come face to face, the two stop, and look at each other, Austin having a moment when he feels that he somehow knows Katelyn.

"Umm, hi," he says after a few seconds.  "Excuse me, I don't mean to stare, but, do I know you from somewhere?"

"No,"  Katelyn replies.  "I don't think so."

"Are you sure?"  Austin asks.  "Because you look SO familiar.  I just can't place where I know you from.  I'm Austin Wentworth."

"Katelyn Spencer.  But, no, Mr. Wentworth.  We don't know each other."

Jimmy comes out at that moment.  "Katie, you coming?  Is everything okay?"

"Everything's fine, Jimmy,"  Katelyn replies.  "This gentleman just thought that I looked familiar to him."

"Yeah, I'm.....I'm really sorry,"  says Austin.  "I guess I had you mistaken for someone else."

"I guess you did."

"Well, bye,"  Austin says, then walks away.

"Katie, come on,"  Jimmy says.  "I'm all warmed up."

"Coming,"  Katelyn says.  Before entering the racquetball court, she looks back at Austin and watches him as he exits the building, a look of anger on her face.  Once Austin is out of sight, she walks into the court.

Bay City, Illinois....

A young woman of 17 walks into a living room in an elegant home in Bay City, Illinois that afternoon to answer the ringing doorbell.  The girl opens the door, and Catlin is standing on the front porch.

"Hi," the girl says.  "You must be here to  see my grandmother."

"Yes, I am."

"I think she's expecting you.  Come in."

"Thank you,"  Catlin says, walking into the home.

"I'm Bridgette,"  the girl says.  "Bridgette McKinnon."

"Hello, Bridgette, I'm Catlin Ewing."

At that moment, a dark haired woman in her mid-60s enters the room.  She stops at looks at Catlin for a moment.  "Well, well," she says.  "Catlin Ewing. I can hardly believe it after all these years."

"Hello, Donna,"  Catlin says, walking over and kissing the woman on the cheek.  "It's been a very long time."

"Yes, it certainly has.  I see that you've met my granddaughter, Bridgette.  She's one of Jake and Vicky's daughters."

"Yes, we met."

"Well, I'll leave you two alone,"  Bridgette says, leaving the room.

"Can I offer you a drink?"  Donna Love asks.

"Yes, thank you.  Scotch, if you have it."

"Of course,"  Donna says.  She walks to her bar and pours a drink.  "I must say I was very surprised when you called and asked to meet with me after all these years."  Donna hands the drink to Catlin.  "It must be important."

"It is,"  Catlin says.  "Donna, I need to find your brother Peter.  Can you tell me where he is?"

"I don't hear from my brother that often anymore,"  Donna says.  "He calls every once in a while.  Pays me a visit about once every two years.  He's long overdue for a visit now.  Why, Catlin?  Why do you wanna see Peter?"

"Donna, did you know that Peter and Brittany had become involved again a few years ago?"  Catlin asks.

"No.  I did not know that."

"Did you also know that Brittany is dead?  She was murdered on New Year's Eve in Dallas."

"Yes, that I did know.  And I'm very sorry.  But I still don't understand why you want to see my brother."

"Donna, an innocent woman has been arrested and charged with Brittany's murder.  She's about to stand trial for it."

"Wait a minute,"  Donna says.  "Are you saying that you think that my brother Peter had something to do with your wife's death?  Catlin, my brother may be a lot of things, but Peter is NO killer."

"Peter and Brittany somehow became involved again a few years ago, Donna,"  Catlin says.  "And you and I both know the turbulent history Peter and Brittany shared.  Look, I'm not accusing him of anything.  I just wanna know how and why he and my wife became involved with each other again, how long it had been going on, and when was the last time he saw or spoke to her.  That's all. Donna, if I have to, I'll have my private investigator track Peter down.  I just thought it would be easier and faster coming to you.  But either way, I WILL find him."

Donna Love sighs.  "Peter splits his time between Washington, D.C. and San Francisco." Donna walks over to her desk, picks up a pen and a piece of paper, which she writes something on.  "Here," she says, handing the paper to Catlin.  "This is Peter's cell phone and his addresses in both D.C. and Frisco."

"Thank you,"  Catlin says.  He walks to the door, then turns back to her.  "Donna, it really is good to see you again after these years.  You're still as lovely as ever."

"Thank you.  Catlin......no matter what you think, Peter wouldn't have killed Brittany."

"Donna, my request will probably fall on deaf ears, but, I really would appreciate it if you wouldn't contact your brother to warn him that I wanna talk to him about my wife." Catlin then quickly leaves.

Donna shakes her head after he's gone, then lets out a deep sigh.  "Oh, Peter," she says. "What the hell have you done?"

Perry's Steakhouse and Grille...that night

Lucy walks into Perry's that night, and is shown by the hostess to a table where Mitch is sitting.

"Your server will be with you shortly,"  the hostess says.

"Thank you,"  Lucy says.

"You're welcome,"  the hostess says, then walks away.

"Hello, Lucy,"  Mitch says.

"Hi, Mitch.  Thank you for meeting me."

"That's alright. I'm sorry that I had to cancel on you the other night.  I was called in to the hospital on an emergency."

"It's okay.  After all, it's no different from when we were married."

"Lucy, why did you wanna have dinner with me?"  Mitch asks.

"I wanted to talk.  Mitch, I know I've said this before, but, I can't tell you how sorry I am about your son Jesse.  If it hadn't been for me, you would've known all those years that you had a son.  You could've gotten to know him.   Been a real father to him."

"Well, you're right about that,"  says Mitch.

"I just don't want you to hate me, Mitch."

"Lucy, I don't hate you.  I'll be honest, I hate what you did.  I'm still angry, and I probably will be for quite some time.  To find out that I had a 30-year-old son who was dead.  A son I would never have the chance to meet or get to know.  A son that my other two children would never get to know.  Lucy, that nearly destroyed me.  But I understand now why you did it."

"I did it because I loved you, Mitch,"  Lucy says. "And I didn't wanna ever lose you, especially not to Joanna.  I made a huge mistake.  A mistake made out of selfishness.  I kept your child from you, and I supposed that's why I was never allowed to be able to have children."

"I'm very sorry about that, Lucy.  I remember how much you wanted to have a baby.  So we've both suffered, and we've both been hurt.  Let's just leave it at that, and move on."

"Uncle Mitch?"  Pamela says, she and Justin walking over to Mitch and Lucy's table.

"Oh, Pamela, good evening,"  says Mitch.

"Hi."

"Hello, Lucy,"  Justin says.

"Well, Justin.  Hello, yourself,"  says Lucy.

"Pamela, how are the babies?"  Mitch asks.

"They're just fine.  Mom is keeping them while I'm out."

"Oh, well, who's your friend?"  Mitch asks.

"I'm sorry.  Uncle Mitch, this is Justin Ewing."

"Ewing?"  Mitch asks, looking at Justin and then at Lucy.

"My cousin,"  Lucy says.

"I'm John Ross's brother,"  says Justin.

"You're J.R.'s son?"

"Yes I am.  His youngest."

"Well, umm, we had better get to our table," Pamela says. "Uncle Mitch, it's good to see you.  Enjoy your dinner."

"Yeah, you, too, Pamela,"  Mitch says as Pamela and Justin walk away.

"Well, when did THAT happen?"  Lucy asks.

"I have no idea,"  Mitch replies.

Meanwhile, Justin and Pamela take their seats at their table.  "Well, that was just a little awkward,"  Pamela says.

"Yeah, I had forgotten that your Uncle Mitch was married to my cousin Lucy once."

"Not once, but TWICE,"  Pamela says.   "And I'm sure that Uncle Mitch will tell my mother that he saw me with you tonight."

"What?  You didn't tell your mama that you were havin' dinner with me?"

"No."

"Is that why you wanted to meet me here instead of havin' me pick you up at your apartment?"  Justin asks.  "Why, Pamela?  Are you ashamed to be seen with me or somethin'?"

"Of course not.  It's just that......my Mom isn't too happy about the two of us.......spending so much time together."

"Yeah, I did get a feelin' that she didn't like me very much.  It's because I'm a Ewing, itn't it?"

"Well, you know the history between our families is pretty ugly.  But Justin, I don't care.  You're my friend, and I enjoy spending time with you.  You've been there for me."

Justin smiles.  "Your friend?  Actually, I was kinda hopin' this was developin' into somethin' a little more than friendship,"  he says.

Pamela looks at him, unsure of what to say to his last remark.

Southfork....two days later....

Christopher, Bobby, Ann, and Lucy are seated on the patio having breakfast two mornings later when Lucas, Heather, Michael, and Alex come out of the house.

"Morning,"  Bobby says.

"Morning, Grandpa,"  Michael cheerfully says, taking his seat at the table.

"Hey, where's Courtney?"  Heather asks.

"She spent last night with Phyllis at the cottage,"  replies Christopher.  "They should be up for breakfast any minute now."

"Alex, how's your mother doin' since she's been back in New York?"  Ann asks.

"She's fine.  I talked to her last night and she told me to give everybody her love."

"Is she liking her new job up there?"  Bobby asks.

"Mom loves anything to do with fashion,"  Alex replies.

John Ross and Krystina come out of the house and take their seats at the table.  "Good mornin', fam'ly,"  John Ross says.

"John Ross,"  Bobby says.

"Lucy, how did your dinner with Mitch go Saturday night?"  Krystina asks.

"It went fine.  I think Mitch and I came to an understanding.  At least now I know he doesn't hate me for keeping his son from him all those years.  And you guys will never guess who I saw at the restaurant when Mitch and I were having dinner."

"Who?"  Ann asks.

"Justin, and you won't believe who he was with."

"Don't tell me he was with Amanda,"  says John Ross.

Lucy smiles.  "Nope.  But he WAS with another of your ex-wives, John Ross.  Justin was having dinner with Pamela."

The entire group looks at Lucy in surprise.  "What?"  John Ross asks.  "You have GOT to be kiddin' me."

"No, I'm not kidding.  Justin and Pamela were out to dinner together, and it looked like a real date to me."

A look of anger comes over John Ross's face upon hearing the news that his brother was out with Pamela.

The Krebbs ranch....

Ray, Donna, and Conner are having breakfast that morning in the Krebbs kitchen when Dylan comes in and takes a seat.

"Well, mornin', sleepy head,"  Donna says.

"Morning."

"You up late last night?"  Ray asks.

"Kinda.  I couldn't sleep."

"You've been having that problem a lot lately, haven't you?"  Donna asks.

"Yeah, I have, kinda,"  Dylan says.

"I thought your medication was supposed to help you sleep,"  says Conner.

"Yeah, well, lately it hasn't been."

"Maybe you should mention that to your doctor,"  Donna suggests.

"I guess I will."

"Dylan, is there somethin' botherin' you, son?"  Ray asks.  "You been actin' a little down lately."

"No, I'm fine, Ray."

"You know if there is somethin', you can always come to us, right?"

"Yeah. I know that,"  says Dylan.

"Good,"  Ray says as the phone rings.  "I'll get that," he says.  He gets up from the table, walks over to the counter, and picks up the phone.  "Hello?  Well, mornin', Pat.  Yeah, we had a great time the other day, too.  Sure, what can I do for ya?"

"Dylan are you sure you're okay?"  Donna asks.  "Your eyes are a little bloodshot."

"Like I said, I haven't been sleeping well.  And I have a headache."

Conner looks at his brother harshly, suspecting that Dylan's headache and bloodshot eyes are caused by something else besides lack of sleep.

Ray hangs up the phone and returns to the table.  "Well, that was ol' Pat Powers," he says, retaking his seat.  "He wants to have lunch one day this week at The Cattlemen's Club to discuss some business."

"Well, you should ask him over here one night for dinner,"  Donna says.  "I'd love to see Pat again.  It's been a long time."

"I'll do that.  Say, Dylan, why don't you just take it easy today?  You look like you don't feel well at all.  Conner and I can handle things on the ranch today."

"Thanks, Ray.  Yeah, I think I just need to get some sleep,"  Dylan says.  He picks up a glass of orange juice and takes a sip.  Conner again gives his brother a look of suspicion.

The Wentworth mansion....

Katherine is packing her suitcase that morning in her bedroom when someone knocks at her door.  "Come in," she says.

Austin walks into the room.  "Mom, what's going on?  Helen said you were leaving."

"Yes, darling, that's right.  I was going to come and tell you.  I have to get back to Falcon Crest."

"But why?  I thought you were staying at least for a few days."

"I had planned to, but, something has come up that I HAVE to take care of,"  Katherine says.

"Richard needs you?"  Austin asks angrily.  "The King summons you back to the palace and you come running."

Katherine looks at her son.  "Austin, this has nothing to do with Richard."

"Then why are you leaving so soon?  You just got here on Friday."

"Honey, I'm sorry.  But as I said, something has come up.  It can't be avoided."  Katherine walks over to her son and touches his face.  "Now, darling, don't look so down.  I'll be back again soon."

"I had just hoped we could spend some time together.  Have a nice long visit."

"I know.  But.....next time."

Austin looks at his watch.  "Look, I have a meeting first thing this morning, but, I'll call and reschedule it.  I can drive you to the airport."

Katherine smiles.  "That won't be necessary.  You go on ahead to your meeting, and I'll have Charles drive me to the airport."

"Okay,"  Austin says.  "Mom, I love you."

"I love you, too, sweetheart.  And I'll see you again soon."

Austin nods.  "Tell Jonathona I said hi."

"I will.  And I hope you can come out to California for a visit soon."

Austin hugs his mother.  "Call me when you get back to Falcon Crest."

"I will."

Austin nods, then turns and leaves the room.

After her son is gone, the smile fades from Katherine's face and is replaced by a look of anger.  "Emma," she says quietly.  "I know you're the one who discovered my secret and told that bitch of a mother of yours.  And for that, you're going to be one very sorry little girl."

Ewing Oil....later....

While Sue Ellen pours herself a cup of coffee in the break room at Ewing Oil later that morning, John Ross walks in.

"Mornin', Mama," he says.

"Good morning, John Ross."

"Catlin back from his little trip yet?"

"No, I expect him back probably late this afternoon or tonight,"  Sue Ellen says.

"You alright?"  John Ross asks.

"I just have a lot on my mind, with this trial coming up so soon."

"Mama, why don't you take some time off from work?  I know it must be just about impossible to keep your mind on what's goin' on around here."

"Thank you, John Ross, but time off is actually the last thing I need right now. Work is a much needed distraction.  But, you are right.  Sometimes, I do find it hard to think about anything else but the trial."

"Yeah, damn that Todd Baxter.  I just know that son of a bitch is usin' this case just to get back at me."

"John Ross, Todd Baxter wasn't the reason I was indicted,"  Sue Ellen says.  "And if he wasn't prosecuting my case, it would be some other assistant D.A."

Jill comes to the door at that moment.  "I'm sorry to interrupt, John Ross, Janice said that you wanted to speak with me?"

"Yeah, I do.  Mama, we'll talk later,"  John Ross says, walking out of the break room with his sister.

"So what's up?"  Jill asks.

"You talked to Justin in the last few days?"  John Ross asks.

"Not since the beginning of last week.  Why?"

"I heard that our little brother has a new dinner partner."

"Oh?  Who?"

"Pamela,"  says John Ross.

"Pamela?  As in.....Pamela McKAY?"  Jill asks.

"Yep, that would be the one."

"No.  I had no idea.  When did THAT happen?"

"Your guess is as good as mine.  Whatever's goin' on there, I don't like it."

"I don't like Pamela any more than you do, John Ross, but, Justin is a grown man."

"Well he's sure not actin' like it,"  John Ross says.  "Especially if he's runnin' around with Pamela Barnes McKay.  And I wanna ask ya somethin' else, Jill.  You really believe that Jimmy Beaumont lured Justin up to the Smithfield cabin that day last summer and tried to kill him?  I mean this is James's son we're talkin' about here."

Jill looks at John Ross for a few seconds.  "You're saying you don't believe what Justin says happened?"

"I'm not sure.  Amanda, I could see doin' somethin' like that.  We both know that girl is nothin' but a lyin' little gold digger, and I wouldn't put much of anything past her. But Jimmy?  I don't know, Jill, it just don't figure to me.  I just can't see Jimmy tryin' to kill Justin, not even for her."

"We never really know what anyone's capable of,"  Jill says.  "After all, Jimmy and Amanda did sleep together."

"Yeah, havin' an affair is a whole lot different from committin' murder, darlin',"  John Ross says as his phone rings.  "Hold on."  He takes his phone from his pocket and looks at it.  "Jill, I gotta take this.  We'll talk later."  John Ross quickly walks away to take his phone call.

Jill breathes a sigh of relief that the conversation was interrupted before John Ross probed her any further about the twisted triangle of Justin, Amanda, and Jimmy.

Motel 6 in Dallas....early afternoon

Amanda is sitting on her bed watching television when someone knocks on her door.  She gets up, walks over and opens the door.  She's surprised to see Dylan.

"Hey," he says.

"Dylan, hi."

"Can I come in?"

"Well, since you paid for this room, how can I say no?"

Dylan smiles, then walks into the room, stumbling a little.  Amanda closes the door behind him.

"So, what are you doing here?" Amanda asks.

"Well, Ray gave me the day off, and I was bored, so, I just thought maybe we could have a few drinks."

"You look as if you've already had a few drinks."

"I had a couple, yeah."  Dylan reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a bottle of vodka. He looks at Amanda and smiles.

"Dylan, how much have you already had to drink?"

"Like I said, just a couple.  So, you got a couple glasses?"

"Yeah.  You just sit down, and I'll get them,"  Amanda says.

Dylan takes a seat on the bed.  "Great," he says.

Amanda brings two plastic glasses back, handing one to Dylan.  He pours her a glass of the vodka then pours one for himself.

Dylan takes a sip.  "Good stuff."

Amanda takes a seat across from him.  "Dylan, is everything okay?"

"I just needed a friend,"  Dylan says, fighting back tears.

Amanda looks at the young man, her heart going out to him as she can tell he is in some kind of pain.  "I'm glad that you did.  I kinda needed a friend, too.  And, to be honest, you're the ONLY friend I have in Dallas.  Actually, you're about the only friend I have left in the world."

"So I guess it's just kind fate that we met." Dylan gets up and takes a seat next to Amanda. He looks into her eyes for a moment, then leans in to kiss her.

After a few seconds, Amanda pulls out of the kiss.  "Dylan, come on," she says.  "We shouldn't do this again."

"Why not?"  Dylan asks. "Amanda, I'm lonely. I'm so lonely, it hurts.  And I think that you are, too. So why shouldn't we deal with that loneliness together?"

"Dylan, don't you see.....that's exactly what we don't need to do right now.  It's true that we're both lonely and very needy.  But it would be a huge mistake for us to give in to those feelings again.  I've made that mistake so many times."

"How is it a mistake when two people who are feeling lousy, can make each other feel better?"  Dylan asks.  He and Amanda look into each other's eyes for a few seconds, then

they begin kissing again, this time more passionately and feverishly.  Amanda unbuttons Dylan's shirt, then slips it off.  Dylan pauses a second and looks at her, then begins kissing her again....

Southfork.....late afternoon....

Ann is wiping down the glass table on the patio at Southfork late that afternoon when Heather arrives home with Michael after picking him up at school.  Heather and Michael get out of the car and walk to the house.  "Hi,"  Ann says with a smile as they approach.

"Hi,"  Michael says.

"Hey, Ann."

"Michael, how was your day?"  Ann asks.

"It was good,"  the boy replies.  "I got an A on my reading test."

"You did, well that's wonderful,"  Ann says.

"Yeah, but I have a math test day after tomorrow, and I'm probably not gonna do so good in that."

"Well, y'know what?  Christopher is real good in math, so I'm sure he'll be glad to help you if you're havin' trouble."

"Okay, cool.  I'm kind hungry."

"Well, there's some fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen, so if it's alright with your Mom, why don't you go on in and get a couple?"  Ann says.

"Can I, Mama?"  Michael asks.

"Oh, I guess so,"  Heather replies with a smile.  "Just save me a couple, alright?"

"I'll try,"  Michael says as he heads off to the kitchen.

"He is SUCH a little sweetheart,"  Ann says.

"Yes, I would have to agree with ya there," says Heather.  "I really hope that Courtney wins custody of her son.  It'd be nice for Michael to have another kid his own age at Southfork to play with.  Especially a little boy."

"Yes it will."

"Ann, is everything alright?"  Heather asks.

"Sure.  Why ya ask?"

"Well, the other day when I accidentally walked in on that phone call between you and Emma, I got the feelin' that I walked in on somethin' I wasn't supposed to hear."

"No, of course not.  It was just mother-daughter talk."

"You acted kinda nervous afterward,"  says Heather.  "Ann, if somethin's wrong, and you need someone to talk to, I'm a good listener."

Ann looks at the younger woman, knowing she could never talk to her about this secret.  "Thank you, Heather, I really appreciate that.  But everything's fine.  Really."  Ann smiles at her, then turns and walks into the house.  Heather wonders if Ann is being truthful with her, and if something really IS wrong.

Perry's Steakhouse and Grille....that night

Sue Ellen is having dinner with John Ross and Krystina at Perry's that evening.  "John Ross, Krystina, thank you both for dinner tonight,"  Sue Ellen says.

"No problem. Mama,"  says John Ross.

"Sue Ellen, we are happy to have your company,"  Krystina adds.

"I had really hoped that Catlin would be home by tonight, but, he was held over on business for another day."

"Where exactly did he go, anyway?"  John Ross asks.

"San Francisco.  He said that, if he has time, he was going to stop in and see his sister Blaine and her husband while he's in town.  They live in San Francisco, you know."

"Wonder what kinda business,"  says John Ross.

Sue Ellen looks at her son.  "Catlin Oil business, of course."

"You'd think he would've given you a few details."

"John Ross, what are you doing?"  Krystina asks.

"Nothin', darlin'.  Just tryin' to make conversation, that's all."

"John Ross, I think what you're trying to do is pump me for information about Catlin, hoping you can find yet another reason to not like him,"  says Sue Ellen. "But it's not going to work. Catlin Ewing is a fine man, and you have no legitimate reason to not like him."

"Alright, alright.  I'm not gone say another word."

"Good, now let's just enjoy our dinner, shall we?"  Krystina asks.

"Good idea,"  agrees Sue Ellen.  "Krystina, how is your mother?"

"She's just fine.  I spoke to her tonight before we came to dinner. And she said for me to tell you that you're in her thoughts and prayers, Sue Ellen."

"Thank her for me."

"I will."

"John Ross, is everything alright?"  Sue Ellen asks.  "You act as though there were something bothering you."

"I just got some disturbing news this new mornin'."

"What disturbing news?"  Krystina asks.  "Oh, wait, you mean what Lucy told us about Justin?"

"That's right."

"What's the matter with Justin?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"Lucy saw my little brother out on what appeared to be a date the other night,"  says John Ross.  "And you'll guess who with."

"Not Amanda?"

"Nope.  Pamela."

"Pamela?  Pamela Barnes McKay?"

"Yep,"  replies John Ross.

"What on Earth was he doing with her?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"I don't know, but as soon as I can I'm sure as hell gonna find out."

"John Ross, this really isn't any of your business,"  says Krystina.  "Your brother is a grown man.  He's what......25, 26?  He can take care of himself."

"Not where the likes of my ex-wife is concerned, he can't.  Look at what happened when Justin got involved with my OTHER ex-wife.  And Amanda is nowhere in the league of Pamela when it comes to devious behavior."

"Actually, I would say they were about even,"  Sue Ellen says with a smile.  "After all, both of these women did lie about who they were when they first arrived in Dallas.  Both tricked a Ewing into marriage under false pretenses, both were married to not one, but TWO Ewing men, and both cheated.  So, I'd say that, so far, Amanda has matched Pamela trick for trick."

"All the more reason not to let my baby brother become Pamela's next victim,"  says John Ross.

The Krebbs Ranch....

Meanwhile, at the Krebbs Ranch, Heath Allen is having dinner with Ray, Donna, Conner, Matt, and Margaret.  As the others chat, Conner continuously looks at his watch, worried because Dylan isn't home.

"So, Heath, what are your plans?"  Matt asks.  "You intend to stay on in Dallas?"

"Oh, I dunno,"  Heath replies. "Hadn't really thought that much about it."

"Don't you think you should?" Asks Margaret.  "I mean, everyone needs some kind of plan.  What their gonna do with their life."

Heath smiles.  "Why?  I've always done real well without a plan."

"Really?  What's your occupation?"

Heath looks across the table at her.  "Well, right now, I'm unemployed."

"Of course,"  Margaret says.  "I rest my case."

"Well, I can't imagine what could be keeping Dylan,"  Donna says, interrupting the tense conversation between her daughter and new stepson, as it is obvious that Margaret isn't very fond of her newfound half-brother.

"Neither can I,"  says Conner.  "I'm starting to get worried."

"I'm sure he's okay,"  says Ray.  "Why don't ya text him or call him?"

"I have.  He doesn't answer.  I think I'll try again."  Conner stands to his feet, and as he's about to leave the room, Dylan walks into the house.  Conner breaths a sigh of relief.  "Dylan, where've you been?"

"I was hangin' out with a friend,"  Dylan says.

"Thought you weren't feelin' good this mornin',"  says Ray.

"Yeah, umm, I took a nap, and when I woke up, I was feelin' better.  No one was here, so, I went into town and met up with a friend."

"A girlfriend?"  Matt asks with a smile.

"Ummm, actually, yeah, it was."

"We were all getting worried about you,"  Donna says.

"Sorry.  Conner, I texted, but I guess it didn't go through."

"Yeah, I guess it didn't."

"So, what's going on?"  Dylan asks.

"We're just havin' a little family get together,"  Ray says.  "Dylan, you remember Heath Allen, my son, don't you?  Heath.....your cousin, Dylan."

"Hi, Dylan,"  Heath says.

"Hey, man."

"Well have a seat while dinner's still warm,"  says Donna.

"Thanks, Donna.  But I already ate in town.  I'm just gonna go on up to my room.  Good to see you all."

"Good to see you, too,"  Margaret says as Dylan leaves the room and heads upstairs.

"Excuse me, I'll be back in a minute,"  Conner says.  He follows after his brother up the stairs

to the hallway.  "Dylan, what the hell is going on with you?"

Dylan turns to face his brother.  "What do you mean?"

"Where were you today, REALLY?" Conner asks.  "You've been drinking again?"

"I was with a girl, Conner.  Hard as that is for you to believe, big brother, I have a girlfriend."

"Then who is she?"  Conner asks.

"None of your business,"  Dylan replies.  "Look, Conner......you're my brother.  NOT my father!  Our father's DEAD, remember?  I'm 21-years-old, and I don't need you all up in my face all the time, so just take care of yourself and stay out of my business."  Dylan walks past his brother, bumping Conner's shoulder as he brushes past him.  Dylan storms into his bedroom and slams the door.  Conner shakes his head in frustration, worried that his brother is headed down a road toward trouble.

Southfork....the cottage....next morning

Courtney and Phyllis are walking back to the cottage at Southfork the next morning after breakfast.  "Oh, that breakfast was delicious," Phyllis says.

"Yep, Maria is a wonderful cook,"  says Courtney.  "And so is Ann."

"These Southfork meals are gonna end up spoiling me."

"Well, good, I hope we spoil you enough around here that you'll wanna end up staying.  I miss having my Mom around."

Phyllis looks at her daughter and smiles.  "And I miss you, my beautiful daughter.  I can't wait for you to finally have your little boy, my little grandson, with you."

"Me either, Mom.  I'm just worried now that the Reeds are planning on fighting us.  And especially since that judge refused to act on taking Jacob out of their custody.  But, at least, thank God, they have a restriction where they aren't allowed to leave L.A. County until the custody case goes to court."

"It'll all work out, sweetheart,"  Phyllis says.

"I'm sure you're right,"  Courtney says.  "Are you sure that you don't wanna ride with me into town?  I just have a few errands to run, and I have an appointment at 9:30."

"No, you go on ahead.  I have several phone calls I have to return, and some stuff I need to read."

Courtney smiles.  "Okay, well, don't forget.  Christopher wants us to come into town and meet him for lunch around 1, so I'll pick you up around 12:15?"

"I'll be ready,"  Phyllis says.

"Okay, see you then, Mom."  Courtney hugs her mother, then walks away, headed back up to the main house.

Phyllis opens the door of the cottage and walks in.  As she closes the door, a sudden, stabbing pain suddenly strikes her in the chest, followed by a shortness of breath.  For a moment, Phyllis is thrown off balance by the pain.  She finally manages to get over to her purse, laying on a table beside the bed.  She opens the purse and takes out a pill bottle, which she opens.  She takes out what appears to be a Nitroglycerin tablet and quickly puts it under her tongue.  After several seconds, the pain begins to slowly subside and Phyllis breathes a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile....

As Christopher comes out of the main house and heads to his car to leave for work, his cell phone rings.  Taking the phone from his pocket, he looks at it, then answers.  "Hello?  Drew, hey, what's up?"  Christopher listens carefully as attorney Drew Demarest speaks on the

other end of the line.  A worried look comes over Christopher's face.  "Alright, thanks, Drew," he says.  "I'll tell Courtney.  Bye."  Christopher ends the call and sighs.

"Tell me what?"  Asks Courtney's voice from behind him.

Christopher turns to face his wife.  "That was Drew Demarest.  Wev have a court date.  Two weeks from this Friday, and before that time......Jacob's father is gonna have to know the truth.  He may even be called to testify.  You're gonna have to contact Joseph Gioberti and tell him that he has a son."

Courtney looks at him with sadness, worried about what Joseph would do if he finds out about Jacob, and how Chase would react to know that she cheated on him with his brother.

Donna Love's home....Bay City, Illinois....

The telephone rings in Donna Love's living room at her home in Bay City.  Donna hurries into the room and answers the phone.  "Hello?"

"Donna, this is Catlin."

"Oh, Catlin, what can I do for you?"  Donna asks.

Meanwhile....a private plane in flight

"Donna, after I left your house a few days ago, I flew to Washington, D.C., but Peter wasn't at his home there,"  Catlin says.  "So, the next day I flew out to San Francisco, hoping to catch him there, but, no sign of him.  I spoke to a friend of his who said he hadn't been in San Francisco in a couple of months.  Donna, are you sure that you don't know where your brother is?"

Donna Love's home....

"Catlin, I told you the other day that I have neither seen nor spoken to Peter in quite some time,"  Donna says.

Catlin's jet....

"Alright, but please, if Peter does contact you.......give me a call, Donna, this is VERY important to me."

Donna Love's home....

"Yes, I certainly will, Catlin, I promise."

"Thank you,"  Catlin says.

"Catlin........I know you said that you didn't want me to tell Peter that you're looking for him if I spoke to him but.......what if I gave him a call and just mentioned that you wanted to talk to him?"

"Donna, thanks, but, I'm not sure that would be a good idea.  But I appreciate it, anyway."

"Goodbye, Catlin,"  Donna says.  She hangs up the phone, then lets out a deep sigh.  She pauses for a moment.  "I don't care what you say, Catlin, but I AM gonna call Peter," she says to herself.  "I know there's no way my brother could be involved in Brittany's death.  But I am gonna find out what's going on."  Donna picks up her cell phone and scrolls through her contacts until she finds her brother, then dials his number.  The phone rings several times, and as Donna starts to hang up, a man's voice answers.

"Hello?"

"Peter, I'm shocked that you actually answered.  What have you gotten yourself into, little brother.  You'll never guess who showed up at my house a few days ago looking for you.  Someone I haven't seen or spoken to in years and years........Catlin Ewing, and he's looking for you, and very determined to find you."

Meanwhile.....

Donna's brother, Peter Love, puts down his phone, a look of fearful anger on his face upon hearing that Brittany's husband is looking for him.

Stone Oil....

While Brad is out of the office, his secretary, Brenda Purvis, walks into her boss's office at Stone Oil early that afternoon.  Going over to the file cabinet, Brenda opens it, and begins looking through Brad's files.  She finds one labeled 'Westar' and removes it.  Next, she finds a file folder labeled 'Cartel' and takes it out also.  Closing the drawer on the cabinet, Brenda hurries out of Brad's office and back into her own, heading straight for her copier.  Opening one of the files, Brenda quickly begins making copies of all of the pages of the Westar file for John Ross, the file which contains Stone Oil's prospective business deals with Westar and the Cartel.  As she is making the copies, Brenda is startled when Brad suddenly walks into the office.  So startled is she, that when she turns around, she knocks over a cup of coffee on her desk.

"Brenda, everything alright?"  Brad asks.

"Mr. Stone.....I thought you had a meeting over lunch,"  says a nervous Brenda.

"Yes, I was supposed to,"  Brad says.  "But, the meeting was rescheduled at the last minute, so I decided to come back to the office and order some lunch in.  Brenda, why haven't YOU gone to lunch yet?"

"Oh, I was just finishing up a few things here in the office before I left for lunch."

"Whatever it is, can wait,"  Brad says.  "Go on.  Go to lunch."

"Well if it's all the same to you, I'll just order something in myself."

"Nonsene.  Now go on.  I'm just gonna order in some Thai food from downstairs, and I may even stretch out on my couch and take a nap, so you go on and enjoy your lunch."

"Alright,"  says a nervous Brenda.  She looks at the two files on the table by the copier behind her desk.  Fortunately for her, Brad walks into his office without seeing the files.  Brenda quickly hurries over, picks the two folders up, and shoves them into a drawer in her desk.  "I'm going now, Mr. Stone."

"Okay, see you in an hour or so,"  Brad yells back to her.

Confident that she had dodged a bullet, Brenda grabs her purse from one of her desk drawers, and leaves the office.

After she's gone, Brad walks over to his file cabinet in his office and opens it.  Sifting through the files, he is unable to find the one he wants.  He looks through the files a second, then a third time, a confused look on his face.  "What the hell?  I know I put that file in here myself." Brad goes to his desk and opens each drawer, looking for the missing file, thinking he may have mistakenly put it in his desk instead.  Unable to find it, he goes into the outer office and looks on Brenda's desk.  Still unable to find the file, he pauses and thinks for a moment, then, intuitively, he opens first one, then another drawer to Brenda's desk. Finally, opening the bottom drawer, Brad comes across not one, but TWO files from his cabinet.  He picks them up......the file on his dealings with Westar, and the file on his deals with The Cartel.  A look of anger crosses his face.  Opening the Cartel file, he notices some pages missing.  He begins searching for the files, then checks Brenda's copier.......locating the missing pages.  Brad is barely able to control the anger he feels at the realization that his own secretary, a woman he had known for years and trusted, had betrayed him.  Brad now realizes that Tripp was right.  It had to have been Brenda who tipped off Austin Wentworth that he was McKay's secret partner in the deal to buy Wentworth's new drill.

Ewing Oil....

Phyllis steps off the elevator at Ewing Oil after her lunch with Christopher and Courtney.  As she approaches Janice's desk, Sue Ellen comes out of her office and sees her.  "Phyllis," she says with a smile, walking over.

"Well, hello, Sue Ellen,"  Phyllis says.

"How are you?"  Sue Ellen asks, hugging her.

"I'm doing okay, and how are YOU?"

"I supposed I'm doing well, under the circumstances."

As Phyllis is about to say something, Bobby comes out of the conference room and walks over to the women.  "Well, Phyllis, this is a surprise."

"I was hoping I could talk to you."

"Sure, come on into my office."

"Sue Ellen, it was nice seeing you,"  Phyllis says.  "By the way, I ran into Sly not long ago."

"Oh, well, how is she?" Sue Ellen asks.

"She's fine.  Very happy."

"Well, tell her I asked about her next time you talk to her."

"I will,"  Phyllis says.  She follows Bobby into his office, and he closes the door.  "I hope you weren't busy."

"Not at all.  Besides, I'm never too busy for an old friend.  Have a seat.  So what can I do for ya?"

"I just had lunch with Christopher and Courtney,"  says Phyllis.  "I still can't get over the fact that our children are actually married to each other now."

Bobby laughs.  "Who would've thought it years ago when you were my secretary, that one day we'd be in-laws lookin' forward to havin' grandchildren together."

"I know.  Courtney wasn't even born back then."  After a few seconds, the smile fades from Phyllis's face.  "Bobby, I need to talk to you.  Friend to friend."

"Of course.  What's on your mind?  This sounds serious."

"It is.  Bobby, whatever you do, please......don't say anything about this to Courtney or to Christopher.  But I need help."

"Phyllis, you know I'll do anything I can for you,"  Bobby says.  "What's goin' on?"

"Bobby.......I think something is wrong with me."

"What do you mean?"

"Over the past month or so, I've been having severe chest pains, and shortness of breath.  I'm absolutely terrified that it's my heart."

"Well Phyllis, you haven't seen a doctor?"

"I did see my physician in Houston.  He did an EKG and there was something a little abnormal.  But he said that I needed more extensive tests."

"Are you gonna have those tests?"  Bobby asks.

"I can't.  That's why I'm here,"  Phyllis says.  "Bobby, I'm having some very serious financial difficulties.  "My business wasn't doing well, and then, some very heavy competition forced me to go under.  I had to declare bankruptcy."

"What?  Phyllis, why didn't you come to me for help?"

"I don't know.  Pride, I guess.  It was after that, these chest pains started.  And you know my mother died from a heart condition when she was younger than I am now.  My insurance was cancelled months ago, so, without insurance, or even a job, I can't afford to have the tests done that I need.  I started to go to Christopher with this, but, I didn't want to put him in a position of keeping this from Courtney.  Not until I know what's going on."

"Phyllis, of course I'll help you,"  Bobby says.  "Anything you need.  We'll make sure that you get the very best of care and the best specialists, whatever.  I'm glad you came to me with this.  But you know, Courtney is your daughter, and she has a right to know."

"Yes, I know, but, Bobby, she and Christopher just got married.  Not only that, they're dealing with trying to get Courtney's son back from his adoptive parents.  The last thing those two need is something else thrown at them.  I'll have the tests, and then, if it's nothing serious, they never have to know.  And if it IS......."

"Then we'll deal with that,"  Bobby says, reaching out and taking Phyllis's hand.  "Phyllis, you can always come to me about anything.  I want ya to know that."

Phyllis looks at him and smiles.  "Thank you, Bobby.  You're not only the best boss I ever had, but, also the best friend I've ever had."

Bobby returns her smile.

Stone Oil....

Brad is sitting in his office with the door open when Brenda returns to work from lunch.  "I'm back from lunch, Mr. Stone," she says.

"That's fine, Brenda."

She goes directly to her desk, then opens her copier.  Brenda is worried when she sees the pages she had earlier been copying are gone.  Brad comes out of his office holding the papers.

"Is this what you're looking for, Brenda?"  He asks.

She pauses, then slowly turns around and is horrified when she sees Brad holding the files. "Mr. Stone, I........."

"Yeah, Brenda.  I found the files you were copying.  Now, I'm gonna ask you three questions, and, you'd damned well better not lie to me.  Why?  Why were you copying these files, and for who?  And were you the one who sabotaged the deal with Wentworth by telling him that I was Westar's partner?"

Brenda fights back tears.  "I'm so sorry," she says.

"I take that as a yes,"  Brad says.  "So you were the one who derailed the Wentworth deal."

"Yes,"  Brenda replies, now in tears.

"WHY, Brenda?  You knew how important this deal was.  How could you do that to me?"

"I didn't want to, BELIEVE me."

"Then why?  Just tell me!"  Brad says angrily.

"I was being blackmailed," Brenda replies.

"Blackmailed by who?"

Brenda pauses a moment.  "John Ross Ewing," she says in tears.

Brad feels the anger rising up inside of him again.  "John Ross Ewing?  John Ross EWING!!!!??"

"What was he using to blackmail you?  What does he have on you, Brenda?"

"It's not me.  It's my son.  My son was arrested one night.  I got the call when I arrived home from work, and before I could get to the police station, this man stopped me."

"Man, what man?"  Brad asks.

"He worked for John Ross.  This man said he was a policeman and he was going to take me to the station to see my son.  He even had a badge.  But instead, he took me to Ewing Oil to see John Ross.  John Ross said that he would arrange it so that my son wouldn't be charged with anything if I would help him.  But if I refused, he'd see to it that my son was charged with drug possession and that would be a felony.  Mr. Stone, my boy is only 17.  I couldn't let his life be destroyed."

"Damn him,"  Brad says with clinched teeth.  "Damn that son of a........"  he pauses and turns to her.  "Brenda, look, don't worry.  I'm gonna take care of Ewing.  I'll make sure nothing happens to your son."

Brenda breathes a sigh of relief. "Oh, thank you, Mr. Stone.  Thank you."

"And, I'll also set you up in a job with another company,"  Brad continues.

"An.....another company?"

"Yes.  Brenda, I'm sorry.  I understand the circumstances you were put in, but, I can't have someone working for me that I can't trust.  Now please, leave."

Brenda lowers her head and nods.  "I understand.  And I'm very sorry."  Brenda walks to her desk and begins to get some of her things.  "Mr. Stone, there's one other thing you should know.  John Ross Ewing........somehow, he already knew things before I ever even told him. Like, he knew about the deal Westar was working on with Wentworth Industries.  So, it's possible that I wasn't the only spy working for Ewing.  Maybe there's one at Westar."

Brad walks into his office without another word to Brenda, and slams the door.  He goes directly to his bar and pours himself a drink.  He takes a sip.  "Damn you, John Ross.  I'll make damned sure you pay for this one.  And pay BIG!"

Ewing Oil....late afternoon

Sue Ellen is working at her desk when someone knocks at her door.  "Come in."

Catlin walks into the office.  "Hi, honey, I'm home," he says.

"Catlin!"  Sue Ellen says with an excited smile.  She walks over and greets him with a hug.  "Oh, I'm so glad you're back.  Why didn't you call?  I would've picked you up at the airport?"

"I wanted to surprise you."

"How did you trip you?  Did you close the deal you were working on?"

Catlin sighs.  "Sue Ellen, I have a confession to make.  I didn't leave town on business.  At least not oil business."

"Oh?  Then what's going on?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"I was hoping to find a lead a on someone I think may have been Brittany's killer, or at least may know something about her life during those years after she left me.  So, I first went to Bay City, Illinois, where Brittany and I lived years ago.  That's where C.J. was born.  Sue Ellen, I had a private eye friend of mine to do some digging into Brittany's life.  I found out that she had become involved again with a man named Peter Love."

"Peter Love?"

"Yes.  Brittany was married to him after she and I were divorced the first time.  Peter was the reason Brittany and I left Bay City.  She shot him, and she was convicted of attempted murder.  Later, her conviction was overturned on appeal.  I thought Peter Love was a part of our past.  Out of our lives for good.  But, it turns out that, after Brittany walked out on our marriage in 2011, it was to be with Peter Love.  The two kept a low profile for a long time, and, Love's sister didn't even know about their involvement.  Brittany and Love were involved right up until she came to Dallas last year."

"You think Peter Love may have killed Brittany?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"If Peter is the same man that remember, then yes, I do believe it's possible.  It also could've been anyone else at that Ball, including Brad or Marilee Stone."

"And......including me,"  says a sad Sue Ellen.

"I don't believe that for a minute,"  Catlin says.  "Sue Ellen, you were drugged out of your mind that night."

"I also don't remember a good bit of what happened.  And that frightens me, Catlin."

"Sue Ellen, I'm going to find Peter Love.  I promise.  I'm gonna find, if possible, before your trial."

Sue Ellen nods, then embraces Catlin.

Bank Of America parking garage....evening

Brad is standing beside his car in the parking garage across the street from the Bank Of America building, which houses Westar.  He sees Tripp approaching and waves to him.  Tripp walks over.

"What's going on?"  Tripp asks.

"Get in,"  Brad says, motioning to his car.  He and Tripp get into the car

"Okay, what's going on?"  Tripp asks.

"I know what happened to our deal with Wentworth. I know who derailed it."

"And?  Who was it?"

"John Ross,"  replies Brad. "He was using my secretary, Brenda, to get information.  Or rather, he was blackmailing her.  The son of a bitch set up Brenda's son, her TEENAGE son, to get busted for drugs, and then he threatened to have the kid sent to prison if Brenda didn't spy on me for him."

Tripp shakes his head in angry disbelief.  "What the hell kind of a man would use a kid like that to get what he wanted?"

"A man like John Ross Ewing,"  Brad says.  "But listen, that's not all.  Apparently, John Ross has other ways besides Brenda to get information on what you and I are doing.  That's why I wanted to meet here, in my car."

"Other ways?  Like what?  Another spy?  Maybe someone at Westar?"

"Could be.  Or, could also be something that neither of us even considered."  Brad looks at him.  "Tripp, I think both of us should have our offices, and our homes swept for wiretaps and phone taps."

"What?"  Tripp asks.  "You think John Ross bugged us?"

"Would you really put it past him?"

"No, not at all."

"Neither would I.  Maybe that's how he knew about the Wentworth drill to begin with.  And if one or both of us have had bugs in our offices or even our homes, there's no telling what else John Ross has overheard and what he knows."

"I say we do this tonight.  We get teams in and check both our offices and our homes for bugs.  And if any are found.....then what?"

"Then.....we give Ewing a taste of his own medicine,"  says Brad.  "He wants to listen in, then we give him something to hear.  Something that will cost him.......DEARLY."

Tripp looks at him and nods.

Justin's ranch....evening

Justin comes down the stairs of his house that evening.  He grabs his car keys from a table and as he opens the door to leave, he finds Lucas at his door.  "Oh, Lucas," he says.

"Hey, man.  Mind if I come in?"  Lucas asks.

"Yeah, sure, man,"  Justin says.  "Come in."

Lucas walks into the house and looks around.

"You're lucky ya caught me.  I was just on my way out,"  Justin says.

"Well, I'll only keep you a minute then.  Justin, how would you feel about running a business?"  Lucas asks.

"What kinda business you talkin' about?"  Justin asks.

"Well, a record company.  Ewing Records.  Uncle Gary's son, our cousin Bobby, started a record label a while back, as a subsidiary of Ewing Oil, which help fund the company. Bobby and I have been in the process of setting up a branch of Ewing Records here in Dallas and it'll be ready for

launch within the next month.  I wanted to talk to you before I ran this by my Dad, or Christopher, or cousin Bobby.  But, Justin, I'd like for you to take my place and run Ewing Records.  Of course I'd help you anyway I could."

"So what happened, Lucas?  You lose interest?"  Justin asks.

"Yes and no,"  replies Lucas.  "I've been doing a LOT of thinking lately, and a lot of talking to my wife Heather.  Justin, I've been working on Southfork for a while now, and the more I do it, the more I love it.  I absolutely love workin' the land.  A land our great-grandparents worked.  And I've decided that running Southfork is what I wanna do, rather than sit in an office."

"And what makes ya think I wanna sit in an office?"  Justin asks.

"That's what I came to find out,"  says Lucas.  "Christopher is part of Ewing Oil, and I wouldn't trust John Ross to run a taco stand, so, you were the next logical Ewing I could think of to ask."

Justin smiles.  "Y'know what, cousin.  This is a mighty temptin' offer.  Especially with some other good things I got goin' on in my life right now.  So, give me a day or two to think about it, and I'll get back to ya.  Fair enough?"

"Fair enough, cuz.  Well, I'll get out of here and let you get to wherever it is you were goin'."

"Thanks for stoppin' by, Lucas."

"Sure.  Just let me know what you decide,"  Lucas says.  As he starts to leave, another car pulls into Justin's driveway.  "Looks like you got another visitor."

"Who in the world could that be?"  Justin wonders.

"Ah, it's your big brother,"  Lucas says with a smile as John Ross's Porshe comes to a stop behind Lucas's car in the driveway.

John Ross gets out of the car and walks up to the house and onto the porch.  "Well, Lucas.  I never expected to run into you over here."

"I was just leaving, John Ross.  Justin, let me know what you decide."

"Sure will, man,"  Justin says as Lucas walks away to his car.

"What was that all about?"  John Ross asks.

"Just a friendly proposition, John Ross.  Look, I was just on my way into town, so, if this could wait......"

"On your way into town to see Pamela?"  John Ross asks.

Justin looks at his brother.

"Yeah, I know about you and my ex-wife," John Ross continues.

Justin smiles.  "Of course.  Lucy.  She told ya."

"Yes she did.  Little brother, what in the HELL are you thinkin'?  Are you and Pamela datin'?  Or just friends?"

"What we ARE datin', John Ross?"

"Then I'd think you need to be fitted for a damned straight jacket.  Of all the women in Dallas.......PAMELA?"

"She's havin' a hard time right now, John Ross.  That jackass she's married to walked out on her while she was pregnant.  I was there when she gave birth to her son.  In fact, I delivered the baby."

"Justin, that woman is trouble, plain and simple.  Not only that, she's the daughter of Cliff Barnes."

"She was good enough when you married her."

"And it's because I was married to her that I know what she's really like.  She's trouble."

"John Ross, you and me been gettin' along real good this last year or so.  I really don't wanna mess that up, but, big bro, this is none of your damned business.  My wife cheated on me with our nephew.  I already filed for divorce from Amanda.  I did that today.  Pamela's marriage to Tripp McKay is done.  So there's no reason at all that Pamela and I shouldn't see each other."

"Well, there's the fact that she's a Barnes and you're a Ewing,"  John Ross says.  "And in all our family's history for the past 40 years, the Ewings and the Barnes just DON'T mix."

Justin smiles.  "What about Uncle Bobby and Christopher's mom Pam?  John Ross, I've never been a part of that stupid Barnes-Ewing feud, so that has nothin' to do with me."

"You get involved with Pamela, and you'll get dragged into it,"  John Ross says.  "Cliff Barnes is NEVER gonna stand for his daughter mixin' up with another Ewing."

"Then I'll tell the old man exactly what I'm about to tell you right now, John Ross.....just butt out.  Now if you will excuse me, I have to go.  Pamela's waitin'."  Justin walks past his brother and off the porch.

"Justin...."  John Ross calls to him.

"John Ross, you're more'n welcome to go in, watch a little TV and I got some beers in the fridge you can help yourself to," Justin says as he heads to his car.  "Just make yourself at home, and, make sure you lock my door when ya leave."  Justin smiles at his brother, then gets into his car.  An annoyed and frustrated John Ross stands on the porch and watches as Justin drives away.

A parking lot in Dallas....

A car pulls into a parking lot and comes to a stop near another car that night.  Two men get out of the newly arrived car and walk over to the other, where Tripp and Brad sit.

"Find anything?"  Tripp asks.

"Sure did, Mr. McKay," one of the men replies.  "Found a small listening device in your living room at your apartment, and two in your office."

"Did you leave the one in my apartment there?"  Tripp asks.

"Yes, sir, and we removed the one from your office, just as you asked."

"What about my place?"  Brad asks.

"Nothing in your office, or your home, Mr. Stone,"  says the other man.

"Why would John Ross just bug your office and home, and not mine?"  Brad asks Tripp.

"Good question," says Tripp.  "A good question that may have a simple answer.  It's because John Ross wouldn't have had access to your home and office like he did mine."

"How the hell would John Ross have access to your apartment?"  Brad asks.

"Not direct access.  But, he had access to someone who had access to my home."  Tripp pauses for a moment, then looks at Brad.  "Man, I don't even wanna entertain this idea, but it's the only one that makes sense."

"What's that?"

"John Ross's son, Alex, and my kid brother Shawn are really good friends.  They go to school together over in Braddock.  Shawn's father was Ann Ewing's brother, and Shawn spends a lot of time out at Southfork with John Ross's kid.  The last couple months, Shawn's been tryin' to get close to me, coming over to my place to hang out.  And before that he couldn't stand the sight of me."

"You really think that your little brother would plant a bug in your apartment for John Ross?" Brad asks.  "We know that John Ross itn't above using a kid to do his dirty work, but, why would your own brother do that?"

"Brad, you and I both know how John Ross Ewing works.  He uses peoples's weaknesses against them."

"Tripp, if Shawn DID do this, then, you know, it's possible that John Ross had somethin' on the kid.  Just like he did Brenda.  He could've blackmailed the boy into doing it."

Tripp looks at Brad, a sad expression on his face.  "Brad, I really pray to God my brother didn't betray me like this, but, if it turns out he did, then I pray you're right.  I hope Shawn didn't stab me in the back willingly.  But either way, I have another reason now for wanting to take John Ross apart, whether he corrupted my brother into doing this willingly, or whether he forced him to........John Ross is goin' down for this."

Katelyn Spencer's apartment....the next morning

Katelyn comes out of her bedroom and finds her brother Brian sitting on the sofa looking at a photo album.  "Hey, what are you doing?"  She asks.

"Just looking over some old photos of us,"  Brian replies.

Katelyn walks over and takes a seat beside him.  She smiles looking at one photo.  After a

few seconds, she turns the page.  "Oh, wow.  I remember that," she says.

"Yep.  That was the day we went to Disney World with my friend Evan and his family."

"How old were we?"  Katelyn asks.

"10.  No....9,"  says Brian.  "I remember the McNeals, Evan's parents, invited me to go with them on that trip, and I said I wouldn't go unless my twin sister could go, too.  Evan begged his parents, and they finally said yes, you could come, too."

Katelyn looks at him.  "You really did that?  You wouldn't have gone if they hadn't let me go, too?"

"Damn right.  We were a team, remember?  You and I always came as a package deal."

"We're still a team, brother,"  Katelyn says.

"Yes we are."

"I hate to run, but I have to get going."

"So early?"  Brian asks.

"Yeah, I'm meeting Jimmy before class,"  Katelyn replies.  "I really hate leaving you here alone all day."

"Nah, it's okay.  Really.  I watch some old movies on TV, and I've been able to catch up on all my favorite soaps."

"You never watched soaps,"  Katelyn says with a smile.

"Oh, yeah, I do.  Days Of Our Lives is my favorite."

"I love you,"  Katelyn says, kissing him.  "Remember....."

"I know.  DON'T open the door for any reason.  Got it.  I'm the one who's a wanted fugitive, remember?"

"I'll see you this afternoon,"  Katelyn says, then quickly leaves.

After she's gone, Brian again looks at the photo of himself and Katelyn at Disney World.  "I bet Austin got to go on lots of trips like that as a kid.  Big brother Jonathon, too," he says, a tear falling down his face. "But me and Katie......this was the only vacation we ever had as kids, thanks to our so called mother giving us away.  But she's gonna pay.  They're ALL gonna pay.  I promise you, Katie, I'm gonna make 'em all pay for you."

Starbucks in Dallas....a short time later....

Katelyn is sitting at a table in a Starbucks a short time later, as if she is waiting on someone.  She continuously checks her cell phone for the time, her patience seeming to grow thin.  Finally, Katelyn sees the person she is looking for walk in.  Katelyn watches Austin as he goes to the front counter and places an order.  Having followed her brother before, she knows Austin's routine, and knows that he usually stops at this Starbucks a few days a week on his way to Wentworth Industries. After getting his cappuccino, Austin grabs a newspaper

from the counter, then walks over and takes a seat at a nearby table.  He unfolds the newspaper and begins reading.  Katelyn watches him very closely for a couple of minutes, as he reads, and periodically takes a sip of his cappuccino.  After a few minutes, Austin gets up from his seat.  As he does, Katelyn also gets up from her seat carrying her own cup, and follows him over to where he picks up several napkins.  As he turns around, he doesn't see Katelyn standing directly behind him.  When he turns around, he bumps into Katelyn, spilling her cappuccino on her blouse.

"Oh my God,"  Austin says.  "I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there."

"It's fine, really,"  Katelyn says with a smile.

"Oh, it's you,"  Austin says, recognizing Katelyn. "The girl I saw the other day at the Racquetball Club."

"Yeah, it's me.  And you are......Austin?"

"That's right.  Austin Wentworth," he says with a smile.

"Hello, Austin, I'm Katelyn Spencer."

"Very nice to meet you, Katelyn Spencer.  I'm so sorry about your blouse.  Here, we'd better take care of that."  Austin grabs a handful of napkins and gives them to her.  "You'd better go wash that off before it stains too bad.  And while you're gone, I'll order you another.....what were you drinking?"

"Cappuccino, but you don't have to do that."

"I insist."

Katelyn smiles at him, then turns and walks to the ladies room.  While she's gone, Austin goes to the counter and orders her another cappuccino to replace the one that was spilled. A moment later, Katelyn emerges from the ladies room.  "I think most of it came out," she says.

"Oh, good.  Here's your new cappuccino,"  Austin says.

"Thanks, but, you really didn't have to."

"It's no problem.  I still can't shake the feeling that I know you from somewhere," says Austin.

Katelyn smiles.  "I guess I just have one of those faces."

"Maybe.  But, you're so familiar."

"You actually look a little familiar to me, too,"  Katelyn says.

"Well, if you don't have anyplace to be right away, maybe we could sit down and talk about it,"  Austin says.

"I'd like that.  I don't have class for another hour, so, I have some time."

"Well, have a seat then,"  Austin says.

Katelyn takes a seat at the table, and Austin takes his seat across from her.  "So, you're a student?"

"Yep.  At SMU.  And what about you?"

Austin smiles.  "I'm a businessman."

"What kind of business?"  Katelyn asks.

"You ever hear of Wentworth Industries?"

"Of course.  Who in Dallas hasn't?"

"That's my family's company.  I'm the CEO."

"You're CEO of Wentworth Industries?  Wow, you look so young."

"I'm one of the youngest CEOs in Texas."

"You sure you aren't pulling my leg?  Come on.  What do you REALLY do?"

"I can prove it,"  Austin says, reaching into his back pocket. He pulls out his wallet and

takes out his card, which he hands to Katelyn.  "My business card."

She takes the card and looks at it.  "Oh, wow.  You really ARE CEO of Wentworth. And at such a young age.  I'm impressed."

Austin looks at the girl and smiles.

A restaurant in Dallas....later

Sue Ellen and Ann are having lunch later that day at one of Dallas's finer restaurants, and the women are discussing Sue Ellen's upcoming trial.

"Catlin honestly hoped he could track down this Peter Love," Sue Ellen says.

"So, Peter Love was married to Brittany at one time?"  Ann asks.

"Yes, about thirty years ago, after she and Catlin divorced the first time.  When she was pregnant with C.J.  Brittany and Peter had a very tumultuous relationship that ended when Brittany shot him."

"Oh, good grief, that's quite a story,"  says Ann.

"Yes.  Catlin was completely shocked when he learned that Brittany was involved with Peter again after so many years."

"And Catlin thinks that Peter could be the killer?"

"Yes."

"You don't seem so sure, Sue Ellen,"  Ann says.

"I'm not sure of anything, anymore,"  Sue Ellen says.  "Except that I'm frightened.  The closer this trial gets, the more frightened I become."

Ann reaches across the table and touches her friend's hand.  "Sue Ellen, that's perfectly normal.  This is a frightening and uncertain time for you.  I felt the same way when I was about to go on trial for shootin' Harris a few years ago.  I felt like I was livin' in a real bad dream that I couldn't wake up from.  Nothin' seemed real to me."

"Yes, that's exactly how I feel,"  says Sue Ellen.  "And my greatest fear is......if I'm convicted, that I'll spend the rest of my life in prison.  I'm not a young woman anymore.  I don't have that many good years left, and the thought of spending that time in prison.........it scares me to death.  I'll miss seeing my grandchildren grow up."

"Sue Ellen, don't talk like that.  Don't even think like that.  You have to have faith that things are gonna work out."

"Faith?  I'm really trying, Ann.  But, every day it gets harder.  And, I'm going to be honest.  It's taking all of the will power I can muster not to take a drink.  I want one so bad.  But I know that, if I slip now and fall off the wagon again, then that'll truly be the end for me, no matter the outcome of this trial."

"You know that you have a LOT of support, Sue Ellen.  And a great big family and lots of friends who really love you.  And we're all pullin' for you."

Sue Ellen looks at her, smiles, and nods.  "I know,"  she says.  Just then, she looks past Ann and sees Todd Baxter as he gets up from his own table across the room.

"Sue Ellen?  What's the matter?"  Ann asks.

"Todd Baxter.  And he's coming in this direction."

"Well, Mrs. Ewing, and.......Mrs. Ewing,"  Todd says as he walks up to their table.  "It's very nice to see you ladies."

"Mr. Baxter,"  Sue Ellen says, coldly.

"Mrs. Ewing.......Sue Ellen........I just wanted you to know that, in my prosecution of your case, it's nothing personal.  I'll just be doing my job to the best of my ability."

"Do you really expect me to believe that, Mr. Baxter?"  Sue Ellen asks.  "Everyone knows your history with my son."

"And I can't believe the District Attorney would allow you anywhere near this case, given how you feel about the Ewings," Ann says.

"Well, my cousin Jay Smithfield already filed a motion to have me taken off the case, but the motion was denied,"  Todd says with a smile.  "Obviously the D.A., Ms. Johnson, has complete trust in me to do my job objectively. Which is what I intend to do.  Good day, ladies.  See you in court one week from today." Todd smiles again, then walks away.

"Oh, how I would love to slap that smirk off that guy's face,"  Ann says.  "From everything I've heard about Faith Johnson, she's a fair and honest D.A.  How she can allow the likes of Todd Baxter, who has a personal vendetta against the Ewings, to prosecute this case, is beyond me."

Sue Ellen looks at Ann, then watches Todd as he leaves the restaurant.  Seeing Todd Baxter was the last thing Sue Ellen needed, with her trial coming up so soon.

Dallas County Courthouse....one week later

One week later, crowds line the hallway outside of the courtroom as Sue Ellen's trial is about to finally begin.  A mop of reporters begin shouting questions at Sue Ellen, Catlin, John Ross, Krystina, Bobby, Ann, Christopher, and Courtney as the Ewings get off the elevator and make their way through the crowd to the courtroom.  "Mrs. Ewing, how do you feel?"  One reporter asks.  "Mr. Ewing, do you think Sue Ellen will be convicted of killing your wife?" Another asks Catlin.

As the group goes into the courtroom, C.J. steps off the elevator with Conner, and they, too, are bombarded with questions.  "You're Catlin Ewing, Jr., aren't you?"  Asks one reporter. "Do you believe Sue Ellen Ewing murdered your mother?"  "Catlin, who's your friend?"

Finally, C.J. has had enough and turns to face the reporters before going into the courtroom.  "Why don't you people go straight to hell?"  He asks angrily, then turns and walks into the courtroom with Conner.  The two take their seats among the spectators, two rows behind the rest of the Ewings.

Jay approaches Sue Ellen and Catlin.  "Sue Ellen, how do you feel?"  He asks.

"Nervous.  Frightened."

"Catlin, any luck yet finding Peter Love?"  Jay asks.

"No.  I have my private eye working on it, but so far, no trace of him."

"We have to try harder.  Contact his sister again, and anyone else Love might be in touch with.  We're down to the wire now, and we need all the luck we can get."

"Jay, Sue Ellen, would you excuse me?"  Catlin asks.  "I wanna speak to my son before the trial starts."

"Of course,"  Sue Ellen says.

Catlin walks over to where C.J. and Conner are seated and sits down beside them.  "Son, are you alright?"

"How do you think I'm doing, Dad?"  C.J. asks.  "I'm here to watch my father support the woman who's on trial for murdering my mother.  How would you feel?"

"C.J., son, I'm really sorry that we're finding ourselves on opposites sides here.  But in the end, we both want the same thing, and that's justice for your mother.  I just happen to be convinced whole heartedly that Sue Ellen is innocence."

"Well I'm NOT,"  C.J. says.  "I'm sorry, Dad.  But I don't believe she's innocent.  I can't talk to you right now.  I'm sorry."

Catlin looks at his son, a hurt expression on his face.  He nods, then gets up, and walks away.

"You okay, man?"  Conner asks.

"I'll be fine.  As soon as my Mom gets justice,"  C.J. replies.  "Conner, I really appreciate you sticking by me when none of the other Ewings have."

"Hey, bro, that's what friends and families do."

"That's what friends and families do?"  C.J. asks.  "I wish you'd tell my Dad that."

Meanwhile, Catlin's sister Blaine and her husband Sandy Cory walk into the already crowded courtroom.   Blaine and Sandy make their way to the defense table, where Catlin and Sue Ellen are talking to Jay.

"Blaine, thank you for coming,"  Catlin says, greeting his sister with a hug.

"Of course I was gonna be here."

Todd walks into the courtroom with another man and approaches Jay.  "Well, cousin,"  Todd says.  "I guess the moment of truth has arrived.  "The moment we find out which one of us is the more capable attorney."

Jay gives his cousin an angry look, but ignores Todd's comments.  He turns and walks away from him, taking a seat beside Sue Ellen at the defendant's table.  A smiling Todd takes his place on the opposite side of the courtroom.

At that moment, as the 12 jurors enter the jury box and take their seats, a bailiff steps to the front of the courtroom.  "All rise,"  the man says in a thick, Texas drawl.  The shuffling sound of everyone in the courtroom standing to their feet can be heard.  "Superior Court of Dallas County is now in session.  This is case number 04-0527, the State Of Texas Vs. Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing.  The Honorable Judge Thomas Flynn presiding."

Judge Flynn, a man in his mid to late 60s, comes out and takes his place on the bench.  "Please be seated," he directs, and the participants and spectators in the courtroom do as they are told.  "Case number 04-0527, the State Of Texas Vs. Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing.  All parties and participants are present.  Who are the participating attorneys in this case?"

Todd stands to his feet.  "Todd Baxter, Your Honor, representing the People."

"Jay Smithfield, Your Honor, representing the defendant."

Judge Flynn tooks at the two young lawyers.  "Mr. Smithfield and Mr. Baxter, you're both grandsons of the late Harv Smithfield, am I correct?"

Jay and Todd look at each other.  "Umm, yes, Your Honor,"  Jay replies.

"I know your grandfather very well.  He was still practicing law when I was first appointed to the Bench in 1989.  And you two are.....first cousins?"

"Correct, Your Honor,"  says Todd.

"In light of this, I have to ask......is this family connection the two of you share going to be a problem in this case?"  Judge Flynn asks.

"Not at all, Your Honor,"  Jay says.

"No, sir,"  Todd agrees.  "My cousin and I have already discussed this."

"Good,"  Flynn says.  "Mr. Baxter, are you ready to begin?"

Todd stands and smiles.  "I am, Your Honor," he says.  He approaches the jury box.  "Good morning.  Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, today, we come to this court of law for the case of the People Vs. Sue Ellen Ewing.  Sue Ellen Ewing.  The woman sitting in this courtroom right now.  Sue Ellen Ewing........mother, grandmother, friend, businesswoman, and.......as the evidence in this case will show.......killer.  To look at her, Sue Ellen Ewing looks like a very beautiful, well dressed woman of culture.  She is one of the vice-presidents of the Ewing Oil Company here in Dallas.  She is widely known for her various work with charities around Dallas and around the state.  She's a former politician, and one time candidate for governor.  Those are some of the positive traits of Sue Ellen Ewing. But there is a much darker side to this woman.  A side which harbored an intense hatred and rivalry for the victim in this case.  And what of the victim?  Who is the victim in this tragic case?  Brittany Peterson Ewing was also a mother.  A wife.  And a friend.  The evidence in this case will show that these two women, Sue Ellen Ewing and Brittany Ewing, had a bitter rivalry between them that was caused by their mutual love for one man......Brittany Peterson's husband, Catlin Ewing...."

A short time later....

"Mr. Baxter, you may call your first witness,"  Judge Flynn says later.

"Thank you, Your Honor,"  Todd says.  "The People call as their first witness, Detective Craig Anderson."

Detective Anderson stands from his seat near the back of the courtroom and makes his way to the witness stand, where the bailiff meets him.  Craig places his left hand on the Bible, and raises his right.

"Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you, God?"  the bailiff asks.

"I do,"  Craig replies, then takes his seat on the witness stand.

Todd approaches him.  "Please state your name and occupation for the record."

"Craig Anderson, I'm a detective with the Dallas Police Department."

"Detective Anderson, you were assigned to investigate the murder of Brittany Ewing, correct?"

"Yes, along with my partner, Detective Steven Jones."

Todd walks to the prosecution table and picks up a plastic bag containing a knife.  He brings it over to Craig.  "Detective, can you identify this weapon?"

"Yes,"  Craig replies.  "That is the knife recovered from the Hyatt Regency Hotel that we tested and positively identified as the murder weapon."

"So this knife was used to stab Brittany Ewing to death?"

"That's right."

"And how was it determined that this particular knife was the murder weapon?"  Todd asks.

"The blade and the handle both had blood on them.  We tested the blood and it tested positive for Brittany Ewing's."

"Where was this knife found?"

"Under a freezer in one of the rooms off the hotel kitchen.  Someone had either dropped or deliberately stashed it there."

"Were there any fingerprints on the knife?"

"Yes."

"Whose fingerprints?"

"There were two unidentifiable latent prints on the handle, and one set of prints over the other two, and that set of prints belong to Sue Ellen Ewing."

"The defendant in this case,"  says Todd.

"Yes,"  Craig replies as murmurings and whispers can be heard all over the courtroom.

Outside the courtroom....later....

Todd is taking a drink of water in the hallway during a recess in court later when John Ross walks up to him.  "Enjoyin' yourself, Baxter?"  John Ross asks.

"Well, hello, John Ross.  I'm certainly having a much better day than I'm sure you're having.  Must be hard seeing your own mother on trial for murdering your ex-lover.  I'm, uh, I'm really sorry about that."

"Not sorry as you're gonna be,"  John Ross says.

"Meaning what?"  Todd asks.

"Meaning that when this trial is over, you can kiss your days as an assistant D.A. in Dallas or anywhere else goodbye.  You won't even be able to get a job as a trash collector."

Todd looks at him and smiles.  "Y'know, John Ross, those threats of yours really are starting to bore me.  And if you keep that up, especially during this trial, I'm afraid that I'm gonna have to have you charged with threatening a public official, which I am.  And I'd do everything in my power to make sure it was a FELONY charge.  So if you don't wanna be sitting in jail right alongside your Mama......then you'll give the threats a rest."  Todd starts to walk away from him, but turns back to him with a smirk.  "I really can't wait to get you up on that witness and grill you,"  he says. "Now THAT'S gonna a lot of fun."  Todd walks away from an angry John Ross.

Having witnessed part of this confrontation, Catlin walks over to John Ross.  "Are you out of your mind?"  Catlin asks.  "Your mother is on trial for her life, John Ross, and you're out here making threats against the assistant D.A. who's prosecuting her case?  What the hell is the matter with you?"

"You know, the way I'm feelin' right now, Catlin, the best thing for you to do is get the hell outta my face.  None of this would be happenin' right now if it weren't for you and that crazy wife of yours!"

"No, that's where you're wrong, sonny boy,"  Catlin says.  "None of this would be happening if you had minded your own damned business and stayed the hell OUT of my relationship with Sue Ellen.  YOU'RE the one who found Brittany and brought her here to Dallas to wreak havoc on everyone's lives, so if your mother goes to prison, there are TWO people to blame, John Ross...........the actual murderer, and YOU!"

"Why you son of a......"  John Ross says as he violently pushes Catlin in the chest, shoving him back against the wall.

Catlin responds by quickly punching John Ross across the face, knocking him to the ground as the crowd around them gasps in horror.  Catlin looks down at him.  "John Ross, if you EVER lay your hands on me again......then I'm gonna be the next Ewing on trial for murder," he says, then walks away through the crowd as John Ross gets to his feet.

Meanwhile, watching all of this from a distance, blending into the crowd, is a man with a baseball cap and dark glasses on, and a beard.  The man watches Catlin as he joins Blaine, Sandy, Krystina, and Sue Ellen and they go back into the courtroom.  Once they are gone, the man takes off his sunglasses to reveal himself as Peter Love.......a man with a keen interest in this case, and its outcome.....

Wow. A real page turner John. Love how you are getting more and more of those Another World characters in the story.

What else can I say that I haven't already? You always surprise us even more and more with your twists and turns. I can't wait for the trial to be over. I feel sorry for what Sue Ellen is going through. John Ross has a worse temper than his dad: starting a fight right there outside the court room. Seriously?! Out of all places?!! I hope Tripp and Brad's plan to have John Ross get a taste of his own medicine will not affect the rest of the family. Krystina sure is a perfect match for John Ross: knows she has to keep her husband in line. Enjoyed every minute of it. Glad Mitch and Lucy had a chance to finally talk. I can't wait to see how this all ends. Great work!!!

Loved this episode, so hope Sue Ellen gets off with it. I must be the only ones that hope the Ewings always come out on top. Hope the Ewings don't have a repercussions after Brad and and Tripp have found out, that John Ross had Tripp's house bugged and Blackmailed Brenda. I also feel sorry for Amanda, after all she's done no worse, than any Ewing man.

Great episode!! I could actually see Ann & Katherine in the kitchen having the heart to heart. I can see Katherine and the steam coming from her ears once Ann confronts her. However, I am worried once Bobby finds out Ann knew about the paternity the whole time. I know Ann means well but I can't see it ending well :(

Now let the games begin (with the trial)!!!!!

I swear you write just as good as the original writers of Dallas. You keep us on the edge of our seats and wanting more. So many story lines to follow...I love it. Trying to figure out how Sue Ellen's fingerprints got on the knife that killed Brittany. Can't wait till Austin finds out that he is a triplet...I hope Katherine finally gets what she deserves. As I always say you my friend are awesome. Another job well done.

John, I've missed many episodes, as I'm new to the site. You know I check out Falcon Crest. Good job writing. Just one thing great crossover with Falcon Crest and Another World. One thing, why not use Marcus Smythe, the last Peter Love who played him so devishly. I remember him saying to Brittany. "Peter Peter pumpkin eater had a wife and couldn't keep her. So he put her in a pumpkin shell, where he kept her very well". I believe he said that after he blackmailed her into marrying him, knowing she loved Catlin

@Christopher......there are very few or no recent or current photos of Marcus Smythe. I'm not even sure he's still acting, so I wanted to use an actor that is familiar to fans and who was also on television back in the 80s at the same time the Loves were on Another World.
